Newest firstWe report a rare complication of prophylactic pancreatic duct stenting during ERCP for suspected hilar cholangiocarcinoma. A 47-year-old woman presented with two weeks of painless jaundice, total bilirubin 18 mg/dL, and cholestatic enzymes. Imaging revealed intrahepatic biliary dilation without CBD dilation. ERCP with cholangioscopy identified a right hepatic duct stricture; biopsies were obtained. A 10 mm × 4 cm…
Open article record in new tab ↗Bile duct perforation is a rare, serious complication of congenital biliary dilatation (CBD). While traditionally managed with a two-stage surgical approach, recent reports suggest that one-stage, minimally invasive approaches may be feasible. We present the case of a 13-month-old female who developed bile duct perforation associated with a protein plug in the common channel. Following the correction of coagulopat…
Aim The correspondence letter aims to correct the historical perspective on common bile duct perforations (CBD) during pregnancy and complete the number of published cases. Findings Instead of declared article by Piotrowski et al., from 1990, and according to available English language literature, the first two descriptions of maternal spontaneous CBD perforation in pregnancy were by JT Hogan Jr in 1957 and then M…
Open article record in new tab ↗Introduction Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure for biliary and pancreatic diseases. It is associated with low rate of complications. However, some complications as duodenal perforation can be fatal. Presentation of cases 852 patients underwent ERCP at our hospital, six patients had a duodenal perforation (0.7 %). All patients were admitted with clinical…
Open article record in new tab ↗Background: Perforation of a choledochal cyst (CC) is not rare, but the pathogenesis of spontaneous perforation has not been established. Pancreaticobiliary maljunction (PBM) is commonly seen in association with choledochal cyst. To explore the relationship between PBM and perforated CC, a retrospective study was conducted. Methods: We analyzed all the patients with CC who underwent surgery in our hospital from 20…
Open article record in new tab ↗Background/aims Endoscopic exploration of the common bile duct (CBD) is difficult and dangerous in patients with Billroth II gastrectomy (B-II). Endoscopic papillary balloon dilation (EPBD) via a cap-fitted forward-viewing endoscope has been reported to be an effective and safe procedure. We analyzed the technical success and complications of EPBD in patients who underwent B-II. Methods Thirty-six consecutive pati…
Choledochal cyst (CC)-a congenital anomaly of the bile duct-is rare. We report a 28-year-old woman complaining of epigastralgia who was transferred to our hospital. Physical examination revealed severe tenderness to abdominal palpation without symptoms of diffuse peritonitis. Urgent contrast-enhanced abdominal computed tomography indicated the dilated common bile duct (CBD) was perforated, with a presumed diagnosi…
Open article record in new tab ↗Rupture of the common bile duct (CBD) in a child secondary to choledocholithiasis is a rare event. In this article, the authors describe a child who presented with an acute abdomen due to CBD rupture, with subsequent acute retroperitoneal fluid collections, all diagnosed preoperatively on CT scan. The aim of this article is to show the pathways that such collections can take in the retroperitoneum.
