Newest firstPurpose Nicotine and cannabis are commonly co-used among adolescents and young adults (AYAs). Same session co-use has more negative effects than co-use that does not overlap. Little is known about how or why these products are used within the same session. Enhanced understanding of this behavior pattern can be leveraged to reduce co-use in this population. Methods Connecticut AYAs (15-20 years old) who self-report…
Open article record in new tab ↗Cannabis is one of the most commonly used illicit drugs worldwide, with its prolonged use potentially leading to various cognitive impairments and brain structural changes. However, current research on the dynamic changes in cortical thickness (CT) related to cannabis use remains limited, especially regarding the relationship between the severity of cannabis use and CT changes in heavy cannabis use (HCU). This stu…
AI-driven and computation-based high-throughput methods were developed to mine novel dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV) inhibitory peptides from hemp seed proteins. The identified peptide VAMP demonstrates a glucose-lowering effect through dual mechanisms: inhibition of DPP-IV activity and selective promotion of intestinal Akkermansia muciniphila growth.
Open article record in new tab ↗ObjectivesFrom the perspective of Chinese healthcare system, this study compared the cost-utility of aripiprazole once-monthly (AOM) and paliperidone palmitate once-monthly injectable for the treatment of adult Chinese patients with schizophrenia. MethodsA 5-state Markov model was constructed to assess the cost-utility of 10 years of treatment with long-acting injections (LAI) for schizophrenia. The long-term cost…
Open article record in new tab ↗BackgroundThe use of marijuana (MJ), combustible cigarettes (hereafter cigarettes), and electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) is widespread among United States (US) adults and linked to worsening respiratory symptoms, especially among adults with asthma. This study examined state-specific prevalence and factors associated with MJ, ENDS, and cigarette use among US adults with asthma.MethodsWe analyzed data of…
Open article record in new tab ↗Historical ethnobotanies of indigenous peoples of the North American prairies reveal treatment of many painful conditions by Echinacea spp. Recent evidence suggests a pharmacological basis for such use as the bioactivity of E. angustifolia and E. purpurea is mediated, in part, through activation of the endocannabinoid system (ECS). Whereas the cannabimimetic effects of individual echinacea products and alkylamides…
Open article record in new tab ↗The clinical development of the first generation of globally active cannabinoid 1 receptor (CB1R) antagonists was suspended because of their adverse neuropsychiatric effects. Selective blockade of peripheral CB1Rs has the potential to provide a viable strategy for the treatment of severe obesity while avoiding these central nervous system side effects. In the current study, a novel compound (TXX-522) was rationall…
