Newest firstWe studied whether the function of presynaptic inhibitory cannabinoid CB1 receptors on the sympathetic nerve fibres innervating resistance vessels is increased in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) like in deoxycorticosterone (DOCA)-salt hypertension. An increase in diastolic blood pressure (DBP) was induced by electrical stimulation of the preganglionic sympathetic neurons or by phenylephrine injection in pith…
Open article record in new tab ↗The enhancement of the endocannabinoid tone might have a beneficial influence on hypertension. Polypharmacology proposes multi-target-directed ligands (MTDLs) as potential therapeutic agents for the treatment of complex diseases. In the present paper, we studied JZL195, a dual inhibitor of the two major endocannabinoid-degrading enzymes, fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH) and monoacylglycerol lipase (MAGL), in spon…
We have previously shown that in urethane-anaesthetized rats, intravenous injection of the angiotensin II (Ang II) AT1 receptor antagonist losartan reversed the pressor effect of the cannabinoid CB1 receptor agonist CP55940 given in the paraventricular nucleus of hypothalamus (PVN). The aim of our study was to determine the potential interactions in the PVN between CB1 receptors and AT1 and AT2 receptors for Ang I…
Hypertension coincides with myocardial alternations in lipid (including sphingolipids) and glucose metabolism. The latest data indicate that accumulation of metabolically active lipids, especially ceramide (CER) and diacylglycerol (DAG) significantly influences intracellular signaling pathways along with inducing insulin resistance. Since, it was demonstrated that the endocannabinoid system (ECS) affects myocardia…
The aim of this work was to produce antihypertensive protein hydrolysates through different forms of enzymatic hydrolysis (2% pepsin, 4% pepsin, 1% alcalase, 2% alcalase, 2% papain, and 2% pepsin + pancreatin) of hemp seed proteins (HSP). The hemp seed protein hydrolysates (HPHs) were tested for in vitro inhibitions of renin and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), two of the enzymes that regulate human blood pres…
Open article record in new tab ↗This report shows the antioxidant effects of a hemp seed meal protein hydrolysate (HMH) in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). Defatted hemp seed meal was hydrolyzed consecutively with pepsin and pancreatin to yield HMH, which was incorporated into rat feed as a source of antioxidant peptides. Young (8-week old) SHRs were divided into three groups (8 rats/group) and fed diets that contained 0.0%, 0.5% or 1.0% (…
