Cannabidiol Enhances SIRT1 and Autophagy for the Maintenance of Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells
Abstract Background/Aim: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are used to treat various degenerative diseases. However, their therapeutic potential is limited by cellular aging during in vitro cultivation. This study aimed to explore whether cannabidiol (CBD) can delay MSC aging by enhancing the expression of Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) and autophagy, two key anti-aging regulators. Materials and Methods: CBD, the most important non-psychotomimetic phytocannabinoid derived from the Cannabis sativa plant, was used to up-regulate SIRT1 and autophagy in order to maintain MSC stemness.
