Abstract Background: Nicotine forms (salt vs. freebase) and isomers (synthetic vs. tobacco-derived) are key characteristics of e-cigarettes that manufacturers manipulate, and “tobacco-free” claims may have served to attract new consumers and increase their intention to use.
