Gunnar Boysen
My research focuses on understanding how environmental exposures, lifestyle, and metabolic factors contribute to cancer development and progression, with the overarching goal of improving cancer prevention and treatment. I integrate DNA and protein adductomics, mass spectrometry, nanopore sequencing, and molecular and cellular approaches to connect carcinogenic exposures and endogenous metabolic processes with DNA damage, mutational signatures, and cancer development. My current research includes developing methods to map DNA modifications and link them to mutation patterns, as well as investigating how obesity-associated metabolic dysfunction and oxidative stress contribute to DNA damage and cancer. A major focus of my work is lung cancer, including understanding mechanisms of carcinogenesis and identifying metabolic vulnerabilities that can be exploited for novel therapeutic strategies.
