Abstract The growing interest in environmentally friendly materials is leading to a re-evaluation of natural fibers for industrial applications in order to meet sustainability and low-cost objectives, especially for thermal insulation of buildings. This paper deals with the chemical and physical characterization of fibers extracted from seagrass (Posidonia oceanica) and alfa grass (Stipa tenacissima) for a possible substitution of synthetic materials for thermal insulation.
