Carmine Marco Morgillo

Carmine studied Pharmaceutical Biotechnologies at the University of Naples Federico II, Italy (Bsc 2010, MD 2011). He was visiting scientist at Universitat de Barcelona, Spain (awarded within the HPC-Europa2 project) in 2012, where he started to apply computational biology and chemistry methods in the HPC environment. He completed a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2016 at the University of Naples Federico II, focusing on computer-aided drug discovery methods (Catalanotti group). He spent a further year in Naples as a Postdoc in the group of Dr. Catalanotti aiding the design of dual FAAH and COX inhibitors. During this period he has been awarded about half a million CPU computing hours at CINECA (Italian HPC infrastructures). He moved to Lyon, France, in 2017 as a postdoc in the Biophysics group of Prof. Lancelin at the University of Lyon 1 for a public/private collaboration with the Pharmaceutical company Edelris, focused on the development of small molecules on innovative targets and on the implementation of automatized pipelines to streamline the drug discovery process. In 2019 he moved to the University of Dundee, Scotland, working as a Computational Chemist in the Drug Discovery Unit. His work was focused on the development of small molecules in a collaborative environment supporting projects in Neglected tropical diseases and a portfolio of Innovative targets. In 2021 he moved to the industry (Astex Pharmaceuticals, Cambridge UK) focusing his work on the rational design of novel small molecules in oncology and CNS disorders.
