Researcher profile
elmostafa el fahime
Following my educational background acquired during the PhD doctoral training in molecular and cellular biology in 1996 at the University Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, France, I started my career as a young molecular biologist researcher with a postdoctoral fellowship (1996-1998) in the field of molecular biology and genomic at the Institute of Genetics and Molecular and Cellular Biology (IGBMC, Strasbourg, France). To broaden my expertise in applied research, I joined the human genetics laboratory of the Research Center, Hospital Center of Laval University, Quebec, Canada (CR-CHUL) in 1999 for a period of 7 years. I worked on a research program aimed at developing a gene and cell therapy for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy using animal model. Back to Morocco in 2006, I joined the National Center for Scientific and Technical Research (CNRST) as an Assistant Professor. I have set up the first national analytical platform for sharing molecular genomic analysis resources. I have designed different phases of the infrastructure implementation (i.e., laboratory layout plan, acquisition of equipment, operating plan, recruitment and training of technical and administrative staff). The main mission of this analytical platform’s team I’m leading is to assist technically and scientifically researchers from all Moroccan universities and specialized research centers, in the field of molecular genetics by providing molecular analysis such as: Genetic material preparation, PCR, RT-PCR, Electrophoresis, Sanger sequencing, NGS sequencing, Bioinformatic analysis In parallel I'm implicated in several national projects, in particular those requiring expertise in fields of molecular biology and functional genomics. I'm member of : the national Neurogenetics network, The National technical and scientific comity for Covid-19 in Morocco, Membre of the National SARS_Cov 2 genomic surveillance Network. My research works are focused on (i) developing molecular tools for rapid diagnostic and (ii) developing animal and cellular model for identified genetic diseases, and (iii) performing functional genomics investigation of identified genetic diseases. I fact, I was implicated in Molecular detection and genotyping of différents virus infecting Human, animal and plant (Rotavirus, SARS-Cov2, H1N1, H3N8 etc...). Recently, I was appointed Contry Ambassador of the American Society of Microbiology (2022-2024).
