Anisuddin Ahmed

I am a statistician by training and graduated from the Institute of Statistical Research & Training of the University of Dhaka, the most prestigious university in Bangladesh in 2000. Later, I completed my post-graduation in the same institute in 2001 securing First Class First Position. Currently, I have enrolled in a PhD sandwich programme under the Department of Women's and Children's Health, Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden. Presently, I am serving as an Assistant Scientist and Project Coordinator at the Maternal and Child Health Division at icddr,b, an international health research institute based in Bangladesh with more than 18 years of research experience in public health. During this period, I have led approximately 19 projects as a Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-PI, and have generated funds accumulating to USD $3,613,834 for conducting research studies. The majority of these grants were through competitive processes. Through my journey in the public health research field, I have contributed in applying statistical methods to scientific research including in epidemiology and public health. During this period, I have gained a considerable understanding of public health issues and became a proud author and co-author in 50 scientific papers published in The LANCET, The Lancet Global Health, The Lancet eClinicalMedicine, The Lancet Regional Health Southeast Asia, Bulletin of WHO, Journal of Hospital Infection, Archives of Public Health, Journal of Global Health, BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth, BMC Research Notes, BMJ Open, PLoS ONE, Environmental Pollution, Science of the Total Environment, Midwifery, International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics, Sexual & Reproductive Healthcare, International Journal of STD & AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Disease, Contraception, and Journal of Health, Population, and Nutrition which give evidence of my scientific skills. I am interested in maternal and newborn health, especially in the areas of health service delivery with innovations in science and technology. Currently, I am involved in several projects aiming to reduce the prevalence of preterm and low birthweight newborn and develop a medical device for preterm and low birthweight newborn management in Bangladesh. I have a particular interest in understanding the major causes of Maternal, Newborn, and Child morbidity and mortality and finding solutions to prevent, protect, and treat them.
