Researcher profile
Apostolis Angelis
I am an experienced researcher dedicated to the extraction, isolation, structural elucidation, and bioactivity of natural products. After my graduation as a Pharmacist at the University of Athens, I did a Master’s Degree and a Ph.D. in Pharmacognosy and Natural Products Chemistry. My work has resulted in > 30 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and more than 60 presentations in International conferences whether in form of oral or poster. I am keenly interested in the chemical investigation of plants of global biodiversity, focusing on new, green extraction/isolation techniques both in laboratory and pilot scale as well as dereplication and identification of complex mixtures, fractions and pure molecules. In the last 6 years I have been working on extraction, (bio-guided) isolation, analysis and bioactivity of flavonoids from Fabaceae plants, tree barks metabolites, olive secoiridoids & phenols, and mastic gum terpenoids among others. My three-month contract with the company Frutarom, Switzerland help me to acquire working experience in pilot scale production of active extracts while my recruitment as post doctoral scientific researcher under a 16-month contract with the Institute of Molecular Chemistry of Reims provided me with high experience in multi-gram purification of ingredients using eco-friendly separation techniques.
