Christian Bellissimo

I completed my doctoral training in the Sloboda Lab at McMaster University, examining the impacts of a periconceptional obesogenic environment on uterine immune cell composition and function and associated impacts on fetoplacental development. I am passionate about reproductive health and research that improves well-being across the life course by ensuring a healthy start. With over a decade of training, I have honed skills in dissecting mechanisms of pathology. My experience in using animal models and in vitro systems to model human health and disease has led to his development of skills in several key areas, including histology (multiplexed immunostaining, in situ hybridization, and tissue staining), cell-based assays (high-parameter flow cytometry, cell culture), and molecular biology. Now as a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Riddell Lab at the University of Alberta, I am continuing to develop and apply skills in the areas of spatial biology to deepen our understanding of how disruptions in immune function contribute to pregnancy complications and long-term programming of disease.
