Benjamin Southwell
Experienced Educator, Laboratory Manager, and Cannabis Researcher Passionate about education and scientific exploration, I bring a wealth of expertise to the higher education landscape. My journey has been marked by proficiency in a range of analytical techniques, including FTIR, UV/Vis Spectroscopy, Liquid and Gas Chromatography, Single, Tandem, and Time-of-Flight Mass Spectroscopy, ICP-MS, qPCR, and ddPCR. My research journey has been particularly focused on unraveling the complexities of cannabinoids and terpenes in cannabis products, a journey I now lead as the Coordinator for the LSSU Cannabis Center of Excellence. 🔬 Academic Roles: Guiding students in Forensic, Analytical, and Cannabis Chemistry courses, I empower the next generation of scientific minds. My impact has been recognized through my nomination as LSSU Professor of the Year 2020-2021 and the honor of receiving the LSSU Student Government Professor of the Year 2019-2020 award and Advisor of the Year 2022-2023. This journey began with the King-Chavez-Parks Initiative: Future Faculty Fellowship in 2012 and 2013, setting the stage for my inspiring academic path. 📚 Education: Armed with a Master of Arts (MA) in Chemistry from Central Michigan University and a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Lake Superior State University (LSSU), I've embraced learning as a lifelong pursuit. These academic milestones serve as the foundation for my commitment to advancing knowledge and inspiring others.
