Patrick Pierre Michel

Dr Patrick Pierre Michel is a Senior Principal Investigator at the Paris Brain Institute (ICM). He holds a Doctorate in Pharmacy (1985) and a PhD in Neuroscience (1990) from Université Claude Bernard in Lyon. In 2002, he received his research habilitation from Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris. Dr. Michel has dedicated his scientific career to translational research in the field of neurodegenerative disorders, with a particular focus on Parkinson’s disease and related conditions. His research combines cellular pharmacology, disease modeling, and translational approaches, aiming to connect fundamental biology with clinical research. Notably, he has established and characterized innovative cellular models of neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation, which are employed for drug screening and mechanistic studies. Results from in vitro studies have informed subsequent investigations in in vivo models of degenerative Parkinsonism (rodents, C. elegans) as well as contributed to physiopathological studies involving patients. From 2011 to 2021, Dr. Michel directed the Cell Culture Core Facility at ICM, supporting over 200 users and integrating various technologies, including high-content imaging, electrophysiology, and the generation of iPS cell lines. He supervised undergraduate, master's, and PhD students, as well as postdoctoral fellows, and has been actively involved in teaching activities. He is the inventor of several patents and has participated in multiple collaborative programs with biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. Dr Michel has authored or co-authored 130 peer-reviewed publications (H-index: 50; over 10,000 citations).
