Robert C. Green
Robert Green is a medical geneticist and physician-scientist with a research focus in implementation science and translational genomics. He has over 26 years of continuous NIH funding and extensive experience directing large multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional projects. These projects have generated empirical data around the medical, behavioral, and economic outcomes of utilizing genomics in the practice of medicine and he has led the field in designing and implementing randomized real-world implementation trials in genomic medicine. As PI of the REVEAL Study (HG002213, AG047866), he led five randomized trials to explore emerging themes in translational genomics of susceptibility genes. As PI of the MedSeq Project (HG006500) within the Clinical Sequencing Exploratory Research Consortium, he directed the first randomized trial to examine the impact of whole genome sequencing in the adult practice of medicine. As PI of the MilSeq Project, he directed the first pilot project of genome sequencing in active-duty members of the U.S. military. As PI of the PeopleSeq Consortium (HG009922), he organized over a dozen practices and laboratories to assess outcomes of elective whole genome sequencing in healthy individuals. As contact and mPI of the BabySeq Project (HD077671, TR003201) he is co-directing a randomized trial to examine the risks and benefits of newborn genome sequencing. He was co-chair and lead author of the process and publication of the 2013 ACMG recommendations for returning incidental variants in clinical sequencing. He sees patients in an adult genetics clinic and is the founding director of the Mass General Brigham Preventive Genomics Clinic in Boston. He was contact and mPI of the PopSeq Study (HL143295) in which he led efforts to return genomic results to individuals enrolled in the Framingham and Jackson Heart studies. Finally, he is the contact mPI of BEACONS, the first project in the U.S. to examine the feasibility of implementing whole genome sequencing into newborn screening workflows in seven U.S. states/territories.
