Gerry McCartney

Gerry McCartney is Professor of Wellbeing Economy at the University of Glasgow and an honorary consultant in Public Health at Public Health Scotland. He initially trained in medicine and was a General Practitioner in Paisley and concurrently completed a degree in Economics and Development at the University of London. He then joined the public health specialist training scheme undertaking attachments in NHSGGC, the Glasgow Centre for Population Health and the CSO/MRC Social and Public Health Sciences Unit (SPHSU). Whist at the SPHSU he completed an MD considering the population legacy impacts of the 2014 Commonwealth Games. In 2010 he took up position at NHS Health Scotland (which later was subsumed into Public Health Scotland) leading the Scottish Public Health Observatory (ScotPHO) and the work on Economies and Health.
