Antonio Aversa, MD, PhD
Antonio Aversa graduated in 1990 with highest honors and in 1995 he completed his endocrinologic training at Sapienza University of Rome, Dipartimento di Fisiopatologia Medica of Rome. In 1991-1995 he had been Medical Officer of the Italian Navy. During this period, in 1994 he was a visiting fellow at the Department of Urology, University of California, San Francisco (mentor Prof. Tom Lue). In 2001 he completed his PhD in Andrological Sciences at Sapienza University of Rome. Currently, he is Full Professor of Endocrinology and Chief of the School of Specialization in Endocrinology, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, University of Catanzaro Magna Graecia; Director of Master Degree in "Clinical Andrology" at same University. Aversa has authored/co-authored more than 300 publications (255 original papers leading to overall h-index=49 source: Scopus). His major professional interest is the diagnosis/treatment of sexual dysfunctions; endocrine disorders related to male aging; male obesity and osteoporosis and endocrine rare diseases. He is an internationally recognized expert in erectile dysfunction management and an expert on testosterone actions in aging male / female. He has been the recipient of "Most Innovative Research Award” (SIAMS) and “Most Innovative Paper in Andrology” published in the Journal of Endocrinological Investigation in 2004 and 2015 (presented by the Italian Society of Endocrinology). He was the recipient of two prizes for Clinical Research presented by the European Society for Sexual Medicine (Rome, 2001, London 2004); finally, the ESSM presented him the Award of Excellence in 2007 for exceptional research made in the field of Sexual Medicine.
