Anna De Simoni

Anna De Simoni is a GP and Clinical Reader in Primary Care at Queen Mary University of London. Since September 2023 she co-leads the QMUL Centre for Primary Care. Her research focuses on improving self-management and medication adherence among people with long-term conditions. She utilises systematic reviews, Patient Involvement, qualitative and quantitative methods to investigate digital and social interventions in Primary Care. She uses multidisciplinary approaches that include network science and is Chief Investigator of AD HOC (https://www.qmul.ac.uk/adhoc/). She co-leads the Centre for Applied Respiratory Research, Innovation and Impact (CARRii) PPI group. She held a NIHR Academic Clinical Lectureship between 2014-2018, a NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship between 2009-2011 and an EU funded Marie Curie Individual Fellowship between 2002-2004. She has published on Nature Protocols, Trends in Neuroscience, JMIR, British Journal of General Practice, Journal of the American Heart Association, NEJM Catalyst and BMJ Open, has won £5,056,587 in grant funding from NIHR, Asthma UK, EU (Marie Skłodowska-Curie postdoctoral fellowship), RCGP Scientific Foundation Board, Evelyn Trust, Wellcome Trust Institutional Strategic Support Fund, Barts Charity, and Sigma-Tau Pharmaceuticals. She is associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), Associate Editor of BMC Primary Care journal, and has served as peer reviewer for national and international research grant programmes. She was a member of the London NIHR Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) Committee between 2021 and 2024 and on cohort 12 of the NIHR Trainee Leadership Programme. She is holder of a 2016-17 NIHR symposium award ‘Online patients' communities in primary care research: ethics and research methods’ and 2018 Barts Health Innovation - runner up award ‘A novel network science approach to analyse and enhance social media to improve self-management of long-term conditions'. She provides supervision to undergraduate (SSC) and postgraduate students (MSc and PhD). Her clinical work includes in-hours GP, urgent A&E and GP care in Out of Hours settings.
