Ulf Dahle

After completing a PhD in microbiology in 1997, ventured into Public Health microbiology with focus on immigration impact on the spread of tuberculosis. Expanded into describing TB-epidemics in various countries and participated in expert panels and country visits on assignments from ECDC, WHO and NORAD. Since 2010, research focus on antimicrobial resistance in general, combining laboratory characterization of microbes and special focus on community engagement, public health behavior and ethical aspects of Public Health interventions. Main projects related to leadership role incude: 2016-2017, Facilitating the transfer of Department for Forensic Medicine from NIPH to UiO: Redesigning services for laboratory operations and infrastructure (temperature surveillance, logistics/storage and quality assurance systems, interchange offices, laboratories and redefining mutual infrastructure etc, while services continued) 2016-2018, Discontinuation of Department for Biopharmaceutical Production, NIPH: Divestiture of contracts and infrastructure, technology transfer and equipment relocation, establishing contract-based archives and various sustainable low-maintenance systems for access to production data, reassigning employees based on specialized competence or facilitating such transfer, reconstruction of production laboratories to microbiology- and infectious disease laboratory services. Presentation of strategy (in Norwegian): https://vimeo.com/234101234 2016-2019, Transferring bacteriological characterization work for national reference fuctions (bacteriology and virology) to one mutual laboratory plattform of Next Generation Sequencing (ensuring funds, procurement processes, acquisitions and esablishing quality assured methodologies, personnel training/recruitiment, communications/information to stakeholders) 2018-2019, Planning/remodeling/modernizing offices and laboratories in buildings of Division of Infectious Disease Control and Environmental Health, NIPH in Oslo (support ensuring funds, detailing architectural solutions based on user needs, development expectations, and effectiveness opportunities, communications with stakeholders while laboratory services continued) 2020-2022, Head of national telephone service (Korona Hotline = 100 coworkers) to support health care services in Covid-19 related questions (e.g. testing, isolation, contact tracing, quarrantine, vaccine related questions, and other interventions). 2020, Defining strategy and building the Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance at NIPH (bringing stakeholders together, facilitating joint efforts and coordinating Public Health relevant AMR related research, national coordinator for Trans Atlantic Task Force on AMR (TATFAR), and Northern Dimension Partnership in Public Health and Social Well-being (NDPHS). Member of National steering group for Norwegian Strategy Against AMR and for Improved Infection Prevention and Control in Health Care Services.
