Adriaan Bruijnzeel

Dr. Adriaan Bruijnzeel is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Florida. He has studied the neurobiology of drug addiction for about 20 years. He started his addiction research career at The Scripps Research Insitute in San Diego. In 2004, he joined the University of Florida. He has studied the addictive properties of nicotine, tobacco smoke, cannabis smoke, opioids, and alcohol. His research has shown that drug withdrawal leads to a negative mood state and that this is mediated by the activation of brain stress systems.
