André Anjos

André Anjos heads the Medical Artificial Intelligence (MedAI) Group at the Idiap Research Institute. With more than two decades in machine learning and artificial intelligence, computer vision, and signal processing, he has a track record in translating methodological advances into applications in high-energy physics, biometrics, and medicine. His expertise spans imaging and biosignals; data collection; image classification, segmentation, and object detection; and the trustworthiness stack (fairness, explainability, and reproducibility). He works across learning paradigms including domain adaptation, fine-tuning, self-supervision, and efficient modelling. He is a strong advocate of reproducibility and open science; notable open-source contributions include Mednet and the BEAT framework for evaluating and testing machine-learning systems. André has taught graduate-level machine learning at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and in Idiap’s Master in AI, and he serves as a reviewer for journals in pattern recognition, machine learning, and image processing.
