Dong-Chul Seo

Dr. Seo has been a tenured Full Professor at Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington since 2014. He is a Fellow and Past President (2014-2015) of the American Academy of Health Behavior (AAHB). He is also a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM). He served as Interim Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs at Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington (2022-2023). He took a leave of absence from Indiana University, one from August 2013-July 2014 and then from August 2015-July 2016 during which he stayed in South Korea and worked for Ewha Womans University College of Health Sciences as Department Chair and Full Professor. He worked as an evaluation expert for the Korean government for 12 years before he joined Indiana University in 2004 as faculty. His research centers around addictive behavior and comorbid mental health problems. Recent research agenda are centered on structural and behavioral interventions to reduce opioid overdose, nicotine/marijuana vaping and related disparities experienced by vulnerable populations. He has published more than 150 articles, the vast majority of them published in high impact-factor peer-reviewed journals, including Addiction, American Journal of Public Health, Health Psychology, American Journal of Preventive Medicine, Tobacco Control, Annals of Behavioral Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Journal of Behavioral Medicine, Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, International Journal of Behavioral Medicine, and Journal of Adolescent Health. His research has been supported by more than two dozens of grants funded by federal or state agencies. He is leading the Tobacco Control and Wellness Research Working Group (TobWell) at Indiana University as Founding Director since 2006. He regularly teaches multivariate and multilevel statistics for graduate students at Indiana University and has received the Indiana University Trustees Teaching Award five times.
