Marie-Pierre Sylvestre

Marie-Pierre Sylvestre is an Full Professor of Biostatistics at the School of Public Health, Université de Montréal, and a research scientist at the Carrefour de l’innovation, CRCHUM. She holds a Senior salary award from the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé, serves as a biostatistics advisor to the Montreal Heart Institute Scientific Evaluation Committee, and is a member of the CIHR College of Reviewers. She is the Principal Investigator of two studies examining the physical and mental health effects of cannabis use. Dr. Sylvestre’s research program is rooted in public health and focuses on developing, adapting, and comparing statistical methods that address the complexities of real world data and can inform health care and public health decision making. Her research interests include innovative methods for longitudinal data analysis, with a particular focus on youth substance use. She has published methodological and substantive work using trajectory analysis, mediation models, and survival analysis. She has also developed three R packages for the simulation and analysis of complex longitudinal data: the Permutation Algorithm (PermAlgo), the Weighted Cumulative Exposure model (WCE), and traj, an approach to trajectory analysis.
