David Richard Brown

David Brown is a family physician, medical educator, and community-engaged researcher. His work spans social determinants of health, competency-based medical education, and polysocial risk frameworks. He co-founded the NeighborhoodHELP program, which integrates service-learning with comprehensive health and social care delivery through home visits, mobile health centers, and a network of over 170 community partner organizations. He leads the FIU Thrive platform for assessing health-related social needs. His contributions to the AAMC Core Entrustable Professional Activities pilot helped shape national frameworks for undergraduate medical education, and he has developed curricula in motivational interviewing and communication skills. His COVID-19 research with the NIH RADx-UP consortium examined testing and vaccination disparities using community-engaged methods. His research employs qualitative, mixed method, and participatory approaches to examine how behavioral, environmental, and social factors interact to shape health outcomes. Current interests include population health, linking the exposome to genomics, and artificial intelligence applications in medical education and clinical practice.
