Suresh Kumar

Dr. Suresh Kumar is an Associate Professor at Management and Science University (MSU), Malaysia, with more than 15 years of international academic, research, and teaching experience spanning Malaysia, the United States, Austria, France, and the United Kingdom. He holds a Ph.D. in Natural Sciences from the University of Vienna, Austria, and an M.Sc. in Bioinformatics from Bharathiar University, India. His academic and research career includes appointments and collaborations with Texas State University (USA), the University of Leicester (UK), INIBAP (France), and INBIOSIS at the National University of Malaysia. He leads an interdisciplinary research group focused on computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics, proteomics, antimicrobial resistance, and artificial intelligence applications in healthcare. Dr. Kumar’s research aims to address critical global health challenges through innovative computational and data-driven approaches. His current work encompasses genomics and transcriptomics, AI-based healthcare and diagnostic prediction, antibiotic resistance and drug target discovery, long COVID biomarker identification, host–pathogen interaction modelling, and multi-omics systems biology. He is particularly interested in integrating machine learning and bioinformatics to accelerate precision medicine and infectious disease research. He has published more than 60 peer-reviewed scientific articles, achieving an h-index of 20 and receiving over 2300+ citations. His research excellence has been recognized through inclusion in Stanford University’s World’s Top 2% Scientists list (2024) and ranking as the top researcher at MSU in Natural Sciences and Molecular Biology according to the AD Scientific Index 2025. As Principal Investigator, Dr. Kumar has successfully secured and managed multiple competitive research grants, including projects funded through the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) and MSU Seed Grants. He has supervised 4 Ph.D. candidates, 5 Master’s students by research, and more than 100 undergraduate research projects, contributing significantly to capacity building and talent development in bioinformatics and health sciences. Beyond research, Dr. Kumar actively contributes to scholarly publishing and academic leadership. He serves as an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology and is a frequent invited speaker at international conferences, workshops, and scientific forums. His mission is to advance interdisciplinary research, foster global collaborations, and mentor the next generation of scientists working at the intersection of biology, data science, and artificial intelligence.
