He started working at TU Munich at the Klinikum rechts der Isar in 1999 were he first completed his training as a Radiologist and then as a Nuclear Medicine physician. He was appointed assistant professor at TU Munich and worked there as a resident at the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Prof. Markus Schwaigers group since 2009, where he also worked with the worldwide first whole-body simultaneous PET/MR system. Academically his main interest is hybrid and molecular imaging with a focus on oncology. After his appointment as chair and director of the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Ulm University Hospital in 2014, he continued working on hybrid and molecular imaging. In 2019 Ulm installed a whole body PET/MR system which is run together with the Department of Radiology. Ambros Beer has received several awards, is author and coauthor of more than 110 papers and acquired several funds for his research as principle and co-investigator. He is speaker of the Center for Imaging at Ulm University Hospital, speaker of the South-West German Society of Nuclear Medicine SWDGN, PI of the NCT-SW initiative (national centers for tumor diseases south-west), and co-speaker of the working group imaging in the ZPM initiative (centers for personalized medicine in Baden-Wuerttemberg).
