Fritz Lekschas

Fritz Lekschas is a computer scientist researching scalable visual exploration of biomedical data. As the Head of Visualization Research at Ozette Technologies, he is leading the research and development of web-based data visualization and exploration tools for analyzing large-scale and high-dimensional single-cell datasets. Fritz earned his PhD in computer science from Harvard University, where he was advised by Hanspeter Pfister and Nils Gehlenborg. Prior to his doctoral program, Fritz visited Harvard Medical School as a post-graduate research fellow to work with Nils Gehlenborg and Peter J. Park on ontology-guided exploration of biological data repositories. He obtained his bachelor and master of science degrees in bioinformatics from the Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. Fritz has published more than twenty peer-reviewed papers in renowned journals and conferences like Nature, Bioinformatics, ACM CHI, or IEEE VIS. His work has been recognized with several awards, including the EuroVis '22 Best PhD Award, an IEEE VGTC Visualization Dissertation Award Honorable Mention '22, a Siebel Scholars Award '21, the Best Paper Award from EuroVis '20, and a Best Paper Honorable Mention from IEEE InfoVis '20.
