Dorah Ursula Ramathuba
I took nursing as a career at Groothoek College of Nursing in 1983, and completed as a general nurse and Midwife in 1986. After completion she worked at Elim hospital as a registered nurse and then joined the former Venda government in 1988 and worked as a primary health care nurse until she moved to the hospital in 1990 and facilitated midwifery clinical skills. In 1992 I was attached to the clinical teaching section doing nurse training and Preceptorship for the then Venda nursing College. Obtained Diploma in Nursing Management in 1996, and in 2000 she got her Postgraduate Advanced Diploma in Nursing Science. In 2003 I completed her BCur (Hons) and in 2005 got training in Problem –based learning with Maastricht University in Netherlands and got my MCur in 2008 with the University of Venda. I then registered with Tshwane University of Technology and in 2007 got BTech Oncology. I am an Associate Professor and academic leader for teaching and learning at the Department of Advanced Nursing Science and a coordinator for Postgraduate Diplomas in Nursing at the University of Venda. I am facilitating postgraduate studies in management and leadership and am a supervisor for master’s and Ph.D. students. During the period I have been at the university, I served as an acting academic leader in the discipline of nursing from January 2019 to April 2024. I have been responsible for the overall management of the discipline and involved with the academic development of the undergraduate Diploma Nursing and Bachelor of Nursing programme, uploaded on HEQC online, and were successfully granted accreditation with effect from January 2022. Presently I am a programme coordinator, involved in the development of three postgraduate programmes and a Diploma in Advanced Midwifery. I am a board member of the Forum of University Nursing Departments in South Africa (FUNDISA), chairing the Clinical Practice Portfolio Committee, and a member of the Elim Hospital board in Limpopo. I have extensive teaching (theory, practice, and research for undergraduates and post-basic diploma students), management, and leadership experience at the university. I am a member of Quality Assurance in the department to oversee that assessments meet the required standards. I am also involved in Faculty Research activities, a member of the University Higher Degree Committee, and a member of the University Ethics Committee and the Limpopo Provincial Ethics Committee in the office of the Premier. I moderated Integrated Nursing/General Nursing Science (undergraduate diploma and Bachelor's) and Nursing Administration (post-basic diploma). I am a qualified assessor and moderator. I am the reviewer of manuscripts for several DHET-accredited peer-reviewed journals and other international peer-reviewed journals due to my expertise in leadership management, oncology nursing, and sexual health. I served as a member of the editorial board for some of the MDPI-accredited peer-reviewed journals. I am an external moderator for two local Universities. I have published extensively in local and international peer-reviewed journals and have received several research awards for my scholarly work. I have presented papers at national and international conferences. I am a C2 NRF-rated researcher.
