Researcher profile
Eduarda M. P. Silva
Eduarda M. P. Silva is, since September 2020, an Assistant Professor at IUCS-CESPU. She carries out educational activities related with her academic position being responsible for the organic chemistry lectures in 3 BSc and 1 MSc degrees and participating in an advance course teaching in the PhD Programme of Toxicology. Eduarda carried out her PhD studies under the guidance of Prof. Laurence Harwood at University of Reading (UK) working in total synthesis. She finished her PhD degree in 2009 and then joined the group of Prof. Artur M. S. Silva as a postdoc researcher at UA to develop research concerning catalysis, stereochemistry and the formation of carbon-carbon bonds. Later in 2016, she became an Assistant Researcher at REQUIMTE-FFUP, working towards the development and validation of analytical methods for application to biological and environmental samples. In 2015, Eduarda took a sabbatical period from research and was involved in the implementation of the Faculty of Exact Sciences at the National University of East Timor (UNTL) through a collaboration agreement between University of Aveiro and UNTL. She has participated in two Cost Actions: EpiLipNet [CA19105], as management committee member and STSM evaluator, and GLYCOnanoPROBES [CA18132] as a working group member. From October 2021 to January 2023, Eduarda was a member of the SynOpen Editorial Board (Thieme) working as Crowd Review Editor. ES is a full member the Associate Laboratory i4HB and UCIBIO at the Translational Toxicology Research Laboratory (1H-TOXRUN, IUCS-CESPU). She is also a research collaborator at LAQV-U.PORTO. Her research interests are now concerned with the development of chemosensors for biomedical applications and in developing methods, phytochemical studies and structural elucidation for establishing the chemical profiles of plants species. At 1H-TOXRUN she leads a project to develop chemosensors for the detection of D-amino acids (XRED-AA_GI2-CESPU-2023) financially supported by CESPU. She has also participated, from 2019 and until 2023, in three other projects as the PI (XANTAAL_GI2-CESPU_2022) and as a team member (CHIRALSINTESE_APSFCT_IINFACTS_2021 and CHIRALBIOACTIVE-PI-3RL-IINFACTS-2019). Overall, Eduarda is the co-author of a book-chapter and 39 peer-reviewed publications in international journals. Her h-index is 13 and her papers have just over 635 citations (Scopus®). Her research led to 19 oral presentations (4 by invitation) and around 55 posters communications in international/national conferences. She is now responsible for the supervision of a PhD student in a Pharmaceutical Sciences PhD program (FFUP), a MSc and a BSc student in Forensic Sciences (IUCS-CESPU), and the co-supervision of two PhD students in a Biomedical Sciences PhD program at IUCS-CESPU and at the Centre for Doctoral Training in Physical Sciences of Life at King's College London. She has co-supervised in the past a MSc student and several BSc students, served as PhD and MSc theses examiner and as scientific journals reviewer
