Bruno Catalanotti
Dr. Bruno Catalanotti got his degree in 'Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology' in 1994, at the Faculty of Pharmacy of University of Napoli Federico II. In 1999 he got the PhD in 'Pharmacologically Active Natural Substances' in the Department of Chemistry of Natural Substances. Throughout his scientific career he used to work at the Medical Research Council Institute of Leicester (UK), at the Department of Pharmaceutical Science University of Salerno, at the Department of Pharmaco- Chemical Technology of of University of Siena. Since January 2004 he is permanent researcher in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy of University of Napoli “Federico II”, where he actually works in the Department of Pharmacy. From october 2011 to february 2012, he has been visiting researcher at the Department of Fisico-Quimica of the University of Barcelona, in the group of Prof. Luque. Dr. Bruno Catalanotti participated to many national projects (PRIN, FIRB) as well as to Eu FP6 funded cooperation projects (ANTIMAL). Moreover, he has been: - WP leader in the FP7- REGPOT project NATPHARMA (2009-2011), P.I. of the ISCRA - CINECA class B project UBA1DYN (HP10B81QWA), and class C project E1E2DYN (HP10CNS2K3). - P.I. of a research Unit within the project SATIN (2018-2020; POR FESR 2014-2020 PIATTAFORME ONCOLOGICHE) - P.I. of the research grant “Sviluppo di derivati degli acidi biliari come agenti antivirali” from BAR Pharmaceuticals S.r.L. (2020) - Participant Contact for the University of Napoli Federico II in the project Aurora Alliance - Research and Innovation for Societal Impact (Call: H2020-IBA-SwafS-Support-2-2020 – Project ID 101035804) (2021-2024) - Task leader for the University of Napoli Federico II in the project Aurora Alliance (Call: EAC-A02-2019-1-Project ID 101004013) (2020-2023) Dr. Bruno Catalanotti gained a long experience in the application of many computational techniques (i.e. protein structure analysis, bioinformatics, docking calculations, semiempirical methods) applied to many fields of medicinal chemistry as proven by 48 articles on peer reviewed international journals (H-index 23; Total Cit. 1616; source Scopus May 2024). The doctor is actually involved in the following main research projects: i) The investigation of molecular basis of ubiquitylation pathways involved in cancer and Parkinson disease; ii) development of novel FAAH inhibitors and FAAH/COX dual inhibitors; iii) the study of the dynamics of PNA heteroduplex and heterotriplexes to design new drugs for Cystic fibrosis disease and cancer iv) the development of new modulators of bile acids receptors for the treatment of metabolic disorders and as potential antiviral agents.
